Ad 2 Honolulu has created a unique internship for the spring semester of 2013 that requires selected interns to gain hands on experience in one of our four Ad 2 related industries: Advertising, PR, Multimedia, and Graphic Design. Two of the most qualified candidates will spend 16 weeks with their selected company and will be expected to provide a reflective paper/presentation and internship evaluation to Ad 2 Honolulu's board at the end of the internship. In addition, partnering companies will be required to complete an evaluation of each intern to be submitted, and reviewed, by the Ad 2 Honolulu's board.

What is H–TV?
H–TV is a branded video segment for the University of Hawai‘i Athletics Department website HawaiiAthletics.com. Videos are posted on the site daily ranging from previews, to features, to highlight reels and postgame recaps and interviews. Videos are also featured on UH's Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube sites as well as the Stan Sheriff Center Jumbotron. Also in the works is the possibility for videos to be aired on OC Sports On–Demand Digital Ch. 1013.
Objectives
Our goal is to create an H–TV student group. The group will formulate ideas and write, edit, and produce videos approved by the Sports Media Relations Office. Videos must be positive in nature and help promote and feature our athletic events, student–athletes, coaches, the University and facilities.
Who?
We are looking for students with a video background who are proficient in video equipment and Final Cut Pro or equivalent editing software and knowledgeable of sports. Students need not be Communication/Journalism major but is desired.

The Sports Media Relations Office accepts interns for JOUR 485 and COM 495 classes. In addition, a limited number of paid student assistant positions are available.

Spring 2013 Paid Journalism Internships
The Society of Professional Journalists (Hawaii chapter) and local news media are offering part–time, paid journalism internships in Spring 2013 to college and university students, and recent graduates.
Internships:
- Internships with print and online organizations: 210 hours at $9 an hour. Total pay to intern: $1,890.
- Internships with TV and radio stations: 140 hours at $9 an hour. Total pay to intern: $1260.
- Schedule: The exact schedule of work is arranged between the intern and the media organization. It can last anywhere from 10 to 18 weeks during January through May 2013. The hours can be the same each week or can vary, but the hours cannot exceed 19 in any week. The internships must end by May 31, 2013.

As an intern, you will work with the project's graphics specialist and the program manager to execute a short film. The film's concept and outline has already been developed. As a member of our team, you will help animate, edit, composite, format, and export the video for a variety of media types. Earn 2-3 credits.

KBFD Channel 32 is known as the "Voice of Korea," bringing Korean entertainment to the Hawaiian Islands.
We are looking for two interns who are time oriented, good at multi-tasking, and work well under pressure to work in our master control room. Duties include: controlling our live feed KBFD by switching programming and maintaining the schedule; controlling our recorded feed KBFD 2 by inputting commercials and editing for time with a computer; monitoring recordings for future use; and other small side jobs.
At the end of the internship one should gain knowledge of how a television station works, having hands on experience with live programming, and how to manage a schedule. Past internships have led to work here at the station and other great opportunities, along with gaining a small piece of Korean culture that we here at KBFD are spreading throughout Hawaii.

The intern will learn about the rapidly growing field of New Media, build a video and photographic portfolio, and gain work experience in the traditional media sector. This is a for credit internship.
The intern may be asked to perform the following tasks, however consideration will be made for individual skill sets:
- Assist with website maintenance, newsletters, media outreach and eblasts
- Support special events
- Monitor coverage of philanthropy, UHF and UH in the news and on the internet
- Develop web/print clip coverage archive
- Proofread materials including print and electronic publications
- Provide administrative help as needed
- Serve as primary photographer for special events
- Photoshop, organize and manage image archive
- Participate in video project planning
- Produce, edit and upload video footage for posting on UHF website and YouTube
- Update media contact lists
- Research potential blogs, news sites and new media for news release distribution
- Draft and distribute press releases
- Write donor and giving impact stories for web and print
- Monitor social media Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Explore new outlets for UHF presence: new media, social networks, events, etc.
Skills required:
- Strong writing and proofreading skills
- Good organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
- An interest and background in communications, new media, social networking sites, and public relations
- Familiarity with Windows environment and MS Office suite of products
- Resourceful, with the ability to take initiative and work both independently and as a team
- Flexibility and a good sense of humor
- Ability to meet deadlines
Additional skills that would be appreciated:
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, Macintosh environments and Web publishing

Responsibilities will include editorial research, investigation of local trends (arts, food, culture, business), fact checking, proofreading, and writing of web articles. Opportunities to write articles to be published in print may be available per the intern's level of experience.
Qualifications: Applicants should be creative, motivated self–starters with a strong writing ability, attention to detail, and an interest in the arts, culture, design, fashion, food and/or media. Working experience of Microsoft Word and Excel strongly recommended. Knowledge of AP Style is useful but not necessary. Published clippings are a plus.
Editorial Intern II – Fashion/Shopping Speciality
This position will assist the editors–in–chief of both Ala Moana Shopping Magazine and Modern Luxury Hawai‘i and will focus on fashion and retail trends. The intern will work under both the Ala Moana editor–in–chief and the Modern Luxury Hawai‘i editor–in–chief. The candidate should be responsible, well–organized and willing to handle a variety of tasks. Responsibilities will include researching fashion trends, assisting with product pulls and returns, fact checking, identifying new shopping trends.

Editorial Intern III – Editorial and photojournalism specialty
This position will assit the editors–in–chief of both Ala Moana Shopping Magazine and Modern Luxury Hawai‘i. Responsibilities will include photographing products and venues and writing short related pieces. Intern will have the opportunity to identify social events appropriate for the magazine brand. Per candidate experience, there may be the opportunity to cover various social events in Honolulu both as a writer and photographer.

Morris Visitor Publications, publishers of Where Magazine in nearly 50 cities throughout the US and Europe, is seeking an editorial intern in our Honolulu office. Our city guides have been the premier travel brand for more than 70 years, and is used by authors of Lonely Planet.
Interns should have an interest in either magazine or Web writing. There will be opportunities to work on Where Oahu as well as WhereTraveler.com, a website and mobile app which accompanies our print products. Students interested in working on the website should be aware of what's going on around town, especially knowing what new restaurants, bars and retail stores are opening on the island. Some working knowledge of AP Style is a must.
This internship will provide a strong "insider's" knowledge of the process of putting a magazine together, as well as building and updating an effective website. Previous interns here at our Honolulu office are now successfully employed within the media industry.
Qualifications: Journalism majors and students with an interest in magazine writing preferred; some working knowledge of AP style; experience with Mac systems; experience writing for/editing Ka Leo a bonus.
