UH PRSSA
The David A. Ward chapter of PRSSA, chartered in 1979, receives strong support from the Public Relations Society of America Hawaii professional chapter. All University of Hawaii students interested in public relations are eligible for membership.
PRSSA members regularly apply public relations skills in service to the community, including support for Relay for Life and the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. With financial support from the Louise Hess Miller Endowment Fund in the School of Communications and PRSA Hawaii, student representatives travel to annual national and regional conferences.
In 1981, the chapter received the PRSSA's national award for university service; in 1982, it was named the outstanding student organization on campus; in 1990, the chapter won the Outstanding PRSA/PRSSA Relationship Award; in 1993, UHM's chapter won the South Pacific District's outstanding community service award; in 2008, the chapter co-hosted a PRSSA Western District regional activity; and in 2009 the chapter was recognized with a Koa Anvil Award of Excellence.
